I’ve been putting this blog off for a few weeks now as I didn’t want to write until I had something interesting to say. Today has become a deadline as I’ve started a project with my lovely friend and artist Kristy Arthurson where we check in at the end of each month by saying “What Have You Got To Show For Yourself?!” Eek, it sounds a little intense but we say it with love and we are getting gooood results. :-)
I have just spent the weekend at the Candelo Village Festival. It’s small, quaint, and wholesome with outstanding local talent. I’ve been catching up with old friends and making new ones too. Musical highlights were The New Graces and Anactoria. The get-you-thinking-about-stuff highlight was the Sass The Patriarchy (STP) forum held by This Way North. The forum discusses strategies for achieving gender equality in the music industry. It’s a complicated conversation and although there are no quick fixes, the amount of dialogue that continued after the forum was indicative of STP’s ability to stimulate discussion and change. Well done Cat and Leisha!
And in other exciting news, ‘Mabo’ has just been released by Yothu Yindi and The Treaty Project. If you read my first blog you know I was involved in the project for some shows in 2017. I play a little guitar on this track which you can check out here - https://xelon.lnk.to/MABO.
Onwards into May, I hope you all have a lovely one!
